Collaborations

Il Cantico delle Creature, l'esaltazione del cielo is a project directed by Fabio Dolce, with support from charitable organisation La Casa Del Sorriso, Monreale (Pa) in Italy: an institute that supports and shelters young children in need of a home and-or social support. The performance is a collaborative work between dance, sculpture, choir, paintings, theater and music. It involves the two choreographers Fabio Dolce and Antonino Ceresia (the artistic director of Essevesse dance company in France), an actor, an exhibition of Pippo Madè's paintings, two sculptures created by Francesco Caronia, the Sancte Joseph choir directed by Mauro Visconti and two musicians. Much of the event is orchestrated as a promenade performance through paintings and sculptures and will culminate in an evening of dance, song and theatre. The curatorial theme of this event is inspired by The Canticle of the Creature by S. Francesco d'Assisi. The charity: La Casa Del Sorriso is an institute that works as a charity with particular attention to minors that live with various types of social issues. They offer shelter to children from 0 to 14 years old that have been taken away from their families whom are no longer able to care for them. In this project Fabio and his team, use La Casa Del Sorriso as a performance space for the first time. We want to give the opportunity for these children to make a connection with arts and culture and allow them to grow in an artistic environment which allows them to express themselves. For this performance each child will be given a free ticket to the event and all proceeds from this will be donated to this charitable body. About the team: Fabio Dolce is the creative director of this event, for which he will collaborate with the renowned Sicilian painter the Maestro Pippo Madè and The Sancte Joseph choir directed by the Maestro Mauro Visconti, that often perform for the Pope. All three artists have been significantly active in charity using their art throughout their careers in Europe. Future: This event will be the beginning of a long term collaboration between the artists, the venue (La Casa Del Sorriso), and the children it supports. We want this event to act as a spring board for future performances, workshops involving the children. Additionally in the long term future we are hoping to tour this work throughout Europe to other charitable institutes so we can continue to foster a relationship between young disadvantaged children and the arts. The project will culminate in a night of performance on the 14th of October 2018.

Red falling is the product of a collaboration between the two choreographers, Antonino Ceresia and Fabio Dolce. Antonino is the artistic director of Essevesse, a dance company based in Marseille, France. Following his previous creation of “Ne bouge pas”, inspired by the italian book, “Don’t move”, by Margaret Mazzantini, Antonino wanted to develop the character “Italia”. In this creation Italia is a woman lost and imprisoned in her own lifestyle. Through the new collaboration, “Red Falling”, Antonino and Fabio use five Sicilian dancers to highlight the five different aspects of Italia’s personality. This piece has been co-produced by the French Institute of Palermo and performed at the “Cantieri Culturali della Zisa” and “Le Mura delle Cattive summer festival” located in Palermo.

EcuLab Classic is an experimental artistic and cultural laboratory that acts as a pop up for young talented artists, developing them in an international environment.  This project supports artists from Sicily and abroad through a unique and shared artistic medium. EcuLab CoArt promotes ideas and projects to qualify, highlight and launch artists and their ideas, whilst preserving their diversity. Four performances have been part of a music and dance festival that was presented to a very mixed and thrilled audience, (at the Panastudio, a performative space built in the historical centre of Palermo, between the port and the CALA, restored for this event), that was mesmerized by these original and highly qualified artists. This effervescent festival, produced by CoArt, allowed young talented choreographers and dancers, with an international career, to promote themselves in this laboratory. Through their art, they showed  the capacity to interact with music, musicians and the light design building up a project that deserves an international display, as it was pointed out by the producer and the artistic director. The choreography made and performed by Fabio Dolce and Antonino Ceresia, highlighted a real dialogue between the whole team on stage, exchanging roles: as the musicians were dancing and the dancers playing music. Doing so, the classical instruments took a new life with the performers that used the experimental lead as a way to transform their sound. The artistic director, Giorgia Panasci, drew attention to these talented dance artists and revolutionized the way of seeing and listening to the harp throughout the performances. The executive production by Francesco Panasci Management, has taken care of the organization of the whole festival and its advertisement, amplifying and valuing the 'made in Sicily' in a very important cultural moment for the city of Palermo, which is the capital of culture 2018 and also hosting Manifesta 12.

Fabio is a multi-cultural, interdisciplinary artist who has led a creative career in dance working across various artistic mediums throughout Italy, France and England. He is working to explore and develop his craft and wants to share his knowledge and work with his audience as an independent artist, a collaborator and as an author.
Fabio is interested in working in different artistic mediums as both a performer and choreographer. He has previously collaborated with painters, sculptors, digital artists, scientists, singers, musicians, photographers, video-makers, choreographers and dancers.

“I am interested in researching new ways of interacting with an audience. Gathering all the tools I have experienced throughout my career, I am looking for a new bridge of communication that connects instinctively my interior to the exterior, giving room to my body to express itself.

My work focuses on the translation of emotions from the physical body. I want to push the creative process further with other artists to merge the diversity of creative practices.”

https://soundcloud.com/fabio-dolce-473210599/no-title is a group piece created by Sicilian choreographer Fabio Dolce as a celebration of women's strength; specifically that of the Sicilian woman. The multitasking qualities of Fabio's mother have been a leading thought in this project. Twelve women, a corridor of leaves, a kitchen, a phone, a coiffeuse and an iron table are arranged on stage for this piece. Eleven dancers perform their physical strength as an actress is ironing, cooking and talking to her best friend telling her life-story. Paying homage to Pina Bausch Fabio talks about one of the traditional roles of the Sicilian women - the multitasking housewife. The spoken text is vocalised simultaneously with an original soundtrack created for this work. The dual communication of voice and song overwhelm the ear of the audience asking them to practise their own multitasking tools. The main sources of inspiration for this work were the two biological events that make the principal distinction between a man’s life and a woman’s life: the menstrual cycle and giving birth. This piece has been performed at the CCN Ballet de Lorraine in Nancy. Currently Fabio is working on a new version of this piece in which he collaborates with only male performers to physicalize his voice. The piece will still be a dialogue about the woman’s condition.

Duo “divin?” shares with its audience an exploration of the relationship between an artist and his craft, more specifically between a writer and his book: Dante and his Divina Commedia. This work is choreographed by Fabio Dolce and is as a duet between himself and his partner. In the piece, Fabio is cast in Dante’s role as author and his partner is cast as his ink and paper. Where Dante would write with ink Fabio manipulates the body of his partner. He 'writes' by leading movement, giving direction, supporting his partner and shaping her body. In performing this work, Fabio stages the live creation of an artwork. This work is a reflection of the relationship between Dante's characters and his images rather than a direct reference to the linear narrative of Divina Commedia. Fabio wanted instead to draw inspiration from the sensations and energies cast from Dante's images of Hell, Heaven and Purgatory to inspire and shape this choreography and the relationship between the performers. This work is physicalized through contemporary partnering and the fundamentals of classical dance since both have been part of Fabio’s work experience as a dancer. The work is accompanied by musicians including piano, violin and an electronic musician (synthesiser). Duo “divin?” has been performed for a festival in Nancy: Carte Blanche, at the CCN Ballet de Lorraine and as part of a festival in Grenoble: Beauregard. A second exploration of this work exists in which the piece is danced by two males, thereby opening a discussion regarding the role of patriarchy both within partnering dance and society.

SHARED SENSe partagé is a collaborative work of dance and digital art. Dance artist Fabio has collaborated with digital artist Diane Wiltshire to craft this piece. Throughout the process, they have entered an interdisciplinary dialogue across each other mediums. Two bodies and electronic devices work together to deliver an intimacy shared by performers Fabio Dolce and Phanuel Erdmann to the audience. Throughout this intimate duet, the dancers are in permanent contact like two twins in their mum’s belly, until the moment they come to this world and they face each other as two individuals. SHARED SENSe partagé illustrates Fabio’s thoughts on intimacy, nudity, brotherhood and movement. The collaboration with Diane was essential to further communicate the performer's intimacy with the audience. Whilst the moving body shared the dancers’ image, sweat, relationship, and emotions, the digital output shared their heartbeat and their blood flow with the audience. These two elements are shown through stage lights and vibrations, both happening in electronic devices pre-placed on the members of the audience. Throughout the piece the audience is free to move through the space - they can choose whether to stand or sit, as well as their point of view. The sound atmosphere is composed by a sound-track crafted by Diane followed by an electronic music composition crafted by Phanuel. SHARED SENSe partagé has been performed in galleries and museums in the UK and it will be source of inspiration for other works in 2019.
